We build from our roots
And our roots run deep. Our history dates back to 1974 when a group of stockholders from Rinderknecht Associates formed Merit Construction, an employee-owned general contractor.
Today, Merit provides complete management and construction services throughout Iowa and the Midwest, continuing a legacy more than 140 years in the making.
As an employee-owned company, everyone on our team is invested in the success of your project. We’ve built a reputation around our high standards of craftsmanship, our commitment to safety, cost control, and efficient project management. We take an exceptional level of pride in our work—and it shows.
Safety
Safety as a Core Value
For Merit Construction, safety is not just a priority, but a deeply ingrained corporate value.
Exceeding OSHA Standards
Merit's Safety and Health Program goes above and beyond OSHA regulations, surpassing minimum safety standards in many areas.
Preventative Safety Measures
Pre-planning for safety is key. Our Superintendents conduct daily "Safety Huddles" with crews, identifying and addressing potential hazards on job sites.
Outstanding Safety Record
Merit employees have achieved nearly three years without a single OSHA Recordable Injury and only one OSHA Recordable Lost-Time Injury in the last six years.
Impressive Experience Modification Rate (EMR)
Merit boasts a 0.56 EMR, earning a 44% discount on workers' comp premiums. Recent dividends and savings from a 0.00% loss ratio directly reduce operating costs and benefit clients.
